Coronavirus (COVID-19) update – Friday 29 January – one year on…..
One year on….
This Sunday (31 January) marks a year since our high consequence infectious diseases unit at the RVI received the UK’s first patients with coronavirus.
Since that day we have seen the most extreme personal and professional challenges and while we very much recognise it hasn’t been easy, every member of our staff has stepped up demonstrating levels of care and compassion which have been second to none.
Over the last 12 months, we have also achieved so much together – from continuing to provide the highest standards of care to patients without covid, embracing new ways of working, creating new research programmes, building a Nightingale Hospital and the integrated covid lab as well as developing a vaccine programme for the region.
To mark the event, we have produced a video of the last year in tribute to all of our staff.
In the coming week, everyone will also receive a small momento which we hope you will wear with pride, recognising the personal sacrifices you have made and the vital role you have played.
Staff can also watch a moving and reflective service from our Trust Chaplain Katie Watson which gives us the opportunity to pause and reflect on the last year.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
