Coronavirus (COVID-19) update – Thursday 12 November 2020
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all their efforts, especially during the past few weeks, to see and treat as many of our patients as possible. We know how challenging it has been in all areas across the organisation and that there is a feeling of fatigue as we reach eight months since he pandemic began.
We know that life feels very different, in and out of work, and ask that everyone continues to follow these essential guidelines to make sure that we keep everyone safe.
Please be mindful of how you wear PPE, especially when out of your normal working environment, and ensure you are always 2 metres away from colleagues, in particular during break times.
During this second period of lockdown we would like to reassure all our staff who have been notified that they are clinically extremely vulnerable and / or shielding from work that they are still very much part of our team. We are doing everything we can to be as flexible as possible, including supporting staff to work from home either in their substantive role or remotely deployed working with other colleagues. Everyone should feel able to contribute to their workplace if they find themselves working very differently to what they are used to, but if you have any concerns or worries please get in touch with your line manager to discuss.
Our HR FAQs have been updated to reflect some changes in this regard – see section 11 on page 10 ‘High Risk Staff – Shielding’.
We are also positively encouraging all staff, with a particular emphasis on our BAME colleagues, to revisit their risk assessment during this second phase. This will help us to understand if anything further adjustments need to be made so we can keep all our staff as safe as possible whilst at work. We know that managers and supervisors will wish to support you in reviewing these assessments.
Don’t forget to review our flourish staff wellbeing page where you will find a range of resources and information to help you identify which mental and emotional support works best for you and our staff wellbeing section on the Intranet
We would also like to thank everyone for making visiting happen so smoothly for our patients and their families during these difficult times. We know how challenging it can be however we know from regular feedback that receiving visits during their time in hospital is a real lifeline for patients, and we would like to be able to continue to offer this important aspect of their care, for as long as possible.
Please be assured that we are listening to your feedback and review our visiting principles regularly.
As you know, families can always keep in touch virtually using the ward iPad, and the Hospedia bedside unit telephones can be used free of charge for external phone calls to 01, 02, 03 and 07 numbers for up to one hour per phone call. Can we please ask you to remind patients regularly of these alternative options.
